Integrative Medicine (IM) is a comprehensive approach to the health and well being of the patient. Integrative medicine evaluates all aspects of the patient’s health including their lifestyle, mind, body, spirit and community. IM combines conventional medicine with alternative methods not yet generally practiced in U.S. hospitals or widely taught in U.S. medical schools. The patients’ diagnosis and treatment plan is determined by using a proper combination of medical interventions.
The patient is evaluated by a board certified physician who has obtained additional educational training in alternative medicine. Physicians that practice alternative medicine use less invasive, less expensive, and whenever possible more natural treatments; they neither disregard conventional therapies nor accept alternative ones with bias. Instead, they know that good medicine is based in good science, which is inquiry-driven and open to various options of medical treatment.
